I’ll never forget the first time I heard it at a “success seminar.”
It was 1982 at the Sahara Hotel (now closed) in Las Vegas.
During a round table discussion, a very successful millionaire Southern Gentleman was asked what it takes to be successful.
He replied with a long southern drawl,
Well, it’s simple… dere’s dem dat do and dem dat don’t.”
I was floored!
What? Are you kiddin’ me? Really…?
How in the world could it be that simple. Some do and some don’t?
What was He Talking About..?
At the time, I was a hungry young entrepreneur and I’d read just about every popular success book on the planet.
I had attended several success seminars and workshops with Zig Ziglar, Dan Kennedy, Stephen Covey, Ken Blanchard and even a new young guy by the name of Tony Robbins!
So, I already knew that being successful was a lot more than, “Some do and some don’t!”
35 Years Later…
As my personal and professional journey continued (and continues today!) I began to realize EXACTLY what he was talking about.
And, I witnessed it first hand as a consultant and presenter, myself.
You Can Lead a Horse to Water…
You’ve probably heard that old adage. And, that’s exactly what this successful millionaire was saying — albeit with different words.
The fact is, every single year thousands of budding young entrepreneurs spend hundreds of millions of dollars on:
- attending seminars
- buying books
- listening to podcasts
- watching tutorials
All of it designed to help make them successful.
Input vs. Output
Yet, according to some success experts, less than 10% actually ACT UPON THE INFORMATION.
So, there it is.
Millions of entrepreneurs go through the “input” mode of information but never actually put that information into ACTION.

2.) Learn how to CONVERT PROSPECTS into CLIENTS. Here’s a funny thing. Even if you’re just mediocre at Step #1, you’ll most definitely succeed at #2.
Because, the people who came to listen to you speak have already PRE-QUALIFIED themselves for you as “interested” in what you have to say. Especially if it’s about weight-management — (the #1 reason people hire a trainer or join a club).
3.) DELIVER: This is a no-brainer and probably the easiest step of all. Simply keep your promise with a credible program that delivers. Listen, all the marketing in the world will not help a “bad product.” Nor, will it heal a broken promise.
