The Expanding Role of Health Professionals
Want to see something amazing? Try this little experiment.
Google these three words: Body Transformation Challenge.
In less than a second Google delivered more than 120,000,000 results!
YIKES…! What does that tell you about our industry?
For me… it makes me feel like I’m just following the crowd. Talk about a “crowd pleaser” …. I even created a bunch of Transformation Challenge Videos!
I was curious about what some of the most successful clubs, studios and trainers are doing to breakout from the herd of “Transformation-ists!”
So, I reached out to a few customers / fitness partners who seriously “DRIVE” their businesses and are always looking to:
- expand operations
- increase revenue
- grow client lists
- build brand equity
With just a few calls, texts and emails, a common denominator began to reveal itself.
And, it’s not rocket science. Just common sense.
As one of them said: “...if you want to grow your business, you need to EXPAND YOUR SERVICES“
BOOM!
Simply put, it’s no longer enough to approach a fitness business in terms of just exercise and nutrition.
And, according to them, a Fit Pro won’t really grow by just chasing more clients.
At least not if he or she wants to breakout from the crowd.
The Holistic Fit Pro
There’s an entire rainbow of other factors involved in one’s health and wellbeing.
That means there’s an entire rainbow of additional products and services you could potentially offer your clients and prospects.
Things for the other 23 hours of the day!
It’s not like this is anything new.
It just seems to be gaining more traction these days. Perhaps it’s a natural evolution of our profession.
Whatever the reason, there are plenty of advantages to becoming more of a “full service” or “complete holistic lifestyle center” or consultant.
Beyond the Money
Beyond the additional revenue, it’s a great way to differentiate your business from the competition. It’s no secret our industry is rapidly becoming saturated with entry level trainers and coaches.
It’s also no secret that wellness professionals, lifestyle consultants and health coaches are attempting to chip away at Exercise/Nutrition type health businesses.
Yes, I understand their services are quite different, but you and they are competing for some of the same limited dollars.
Finally, because health and/or wellness coaching can also be conducted via phone, Skype, Zoom or other interactive vehicle, it’s an excellent way to begin your foray into the world of “online coaching.”
How to Move Forward
The first step is to investigate the certifications and their respective requirements. Here’s a list of just five (5) popular health coaching certifications. There are plenty more.
I’m NOT an affiliate with any of them. Nor have I vetted them. I’m listing them as a way to gain information, only:
- NSHC – National Society of Health Coaches
- American Council on Exercise (ACE)
- Dr. Sears Wellness Institute
- Duke Integrative Medicine
- Wellcoaches School of Coaching
In the meantime, here’s a free “Wellness Checklist.”
