GLP-1 – What to Know…

The Buzz…!

I’m sure by now you’ve heard all about GLP-1s (Glucagon-like peptide 1) or semaglutide injectables like Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Ro and others.

Listen, for people who really need it… type II diabetics and the clinically obese – this can be a “wonder drug” assuming they follow the additional required lifestyle regimen.

I am 100% a true advocate for this protocol for those who REALLY NEED IT.

But, the TRUTH is, these expensive injectables are being marketed to every Dick, Jane and Sally who just want to “magically” lose those stubborn 10-15 pounds.

Ya know… before the wedding, high school reunion, family get togethers, holidays, etc., — especially in today’s pervasive social media “image” environment.

So no matter what you see or hear about GLP-1s… this is NOT about health. It’s all about the MONEY!

Want Proof…?

Wall Street analysts project the GLP-1 market by 2028 to be $135.54 billion (that’s —> $135,540,000,000).

There’s no way to achieve those numbers solely treating type II diabetics and the clinically obese.

Nope..! —> This is Big Pharma at it’s absolute greediest!

Make no mistake about their priorities.

These are gigantic public companies with a fiduciary duty to increase value for their shareholders.

As such, they are mass marketing GLP-1s as the “holy grail” of weight-loss (pounds-on-the-scale) to hundreds of millions of people world wide — who don’t need it.

I’ll Stand My Ground…

So, there it is…

The question all true health professionals need to ask themselves:

Is it about HEALTH or MONEY?

As business owners we all need to make money.

But, for most health professionals, the motivation to pursuing a career in health and fitness is 100% toward helping people achieve better health – the right way via:

✅ productive exercise
✅ proper nutrition
✅ positive mindset

Health and fitness just for the money? Ha..ha! 😅 It’s too difficult!

It’s Not the Drug… It’s the Marketing!

Please don’t misunderstand. This is NOT about the drug.

I totally understand the physiology behind the drug and that our bodies actually produce GLP-1 in small quantities.

It’s about the MARKETING💰💰💰 of an injectable DRUG (with serious side effects) to millions of people who DON’T NEED IT!

Turning Lemons into Lemonade…

After all is said and done…. and no matter how much I disagree with the protocol as it relates to people who don’t need it — it’s here.

And, as mentioned earlier it’s going to grow (to the tune of $135.54 billion).

So, a defensive marketing strategy for many fit pros, clubs and studios is to develop a program that facilitates the recommended lifestyle modifications for all people taking GLP-1 (nutrition and exercise).

You could even give it a fancy name like, “The GLP-Lifestyle Program.”

And, with any luck, perhaps you’ll be able to ween people of the drug completely and substitute it with a health journey achieved in a much more positive and rewarding manner!

Just Another Failed Attempt at a Long List of Instant Gratification Programs

At the end of the day, the GLP-1 protocol will become just another failed program.

It’s only a matter of time before the injury lawyers start to dig-in and the class-action lawsuits begin.

I’ve already added it to the list in our History of Diets.

It tracks over 300 years of different “instant gratification” programs designed to be the easy way to lose weight. Some of them are hilarious!
