Is This Even Legal For Fitness Pros..?
Recently, I displayed a “test page” of an Exercise Reference Guide we’re creating for one of our fitness partners.
Within days, I received over 50 emails asking the same question:
QUESTION: Is it legal to post someone else’s public YouTube Video on my website?
ANSWER: If there is a “share” button below the video, it generally means the owner of the video has given permission to share the video using the “embed” code made available with a “copy” button (see image below).
Therefore, YES, you can post on your own website, however there is one very important caveat.
IMPORTANT: You are NOT allowed to CHARGE or PROFIT from the use of someone else’s video. For example, you could NOT put these videos behind a subscription-based firewall and charge for access. They must remain FREE to the user / browser.
WE GO FURTHER —> On our Exercise Reference Guide we actually post a note (disclaimer) at the top of the page informing the viewer or reader where these videos came from — and they’re available as public videos on YouTube.
Use as a Fitness Template and Replace
The real goal is to use these exercise videos as a “model template” and then recreate YOUR OWN demonstration exercise videos with YOU as the demonstrator.
This will allow YOU to demonstrate the exercises precisely the you want your clients to perform them.
But for now, you can be up and running with value-added content for your training clients.
This will allow you to create your own, higher quality videos at your own pace.
Beyond Video…the Printed Version
Talk about “dual purpose!”
Another element we’ve developed is a .pdf version of the same guide with embedded links to the same videos.
Leading Up to Full Workouts
Eventually, all health and fitness professionals should plan to create full 30-minute and 60-minute online workout videos and establish your own “online business” with clients from all over the world.
What About Training Apps…?
There certainly are a ton of them with demo videos.
You may have used some of them. I have too.
But, I always found them lacking for one reason or another.
From a business point of view, another problem with most apps is that they offer “consumer version upsells.”
So, they literally compete with you.
Ultimately, YOU should be THE MODEL who demonstrates the exercises/workouts and control the entire experience under YOUR OWN BRAND
It Takes Time and Effort…
Here’s the thing. If you don’t already have an online presence with videos and workouts, it’s time to at least get started.
It definitely takes time and effort to develop your “online platform” and recording 15 to 30: second video demonstrations is an excellent starting point because it really doesn’t take much.
All you really need is a smartphone!
Or, Outsource It…
As you know, I’m an advocate of “Time Vs. Money.” If you have more time than money, than you should do as much as you can by yourself. Be a DIYer.
On the other hand, if you have more money than time, then you should be outsourcing as much as possible allowing you to focus on other aspects of growing your business.
If you are the latter take a look at Ro Little’s White Label Workouts.
No matter how you go about it, the new normal includes “online” digital content.
And, the more you can produce under YOUR OWN BRAND, the faster your business will grow. Period!
